Green spaces
THE CATTEAU SQUARE
Just a stone's throw from the Hotel de Ville, the Pierre Catteau square, a haven of peace and greenery, was purchased by the town council in 1890 from the heirs of a rich textile merchant.
At the centre of this space is a lake around which large flowerbeds are arranged within vast lawns, giving this place its romantic feel.
Overlooking this park of 13,500m2, majestic buildings of the law courts dating from the 19th century further serve to add to the intensity of the atmosphere.

THE NEW WORLD PARK
Extending over 4.5 hectares, this place is an example of successful recycling of industrial space. Open since May 2000, this park is entirely unique and innovative in its design, built on the wasteland of the former Phildar factory site.
The New World Park is now an integral part of the identity of the Hommelet district. It is right in the centre of this district , forming a link to the town centre as well as an important green belt between the canal and the Visitation Park.
It comprises two distinct areas with the following characteristics:
- an open park to meet the social demands of a very young district, residents of the collective accommodation and the neighbouring Turgot secondary school
- an enclosed part, supervised by a gardener and made up of the &quo...
THE VISITATION PARK
In 1975 the sisters of the Visitation decided to leave their convent of the same name.
The church commission asked the town of Roubaix to buy the whole estate. Straightaway, work was rapidly undertaken to transform the convent into a home for the elderly and the garden, essentially made up of a vast prairie, a wooded area and fruit trees, into a square of 13 000 m2 including a fountain and a vast playing field.
This space, surrounded by brick walls 4m50 high, was renovated in 1998 with an opening onto the exterior, onto the banks of the Roubaix canal.
