La Piscine Roubaix

La Piscine Roubaix

This is where your journey begins…

A bold gamble, a successful retransformation, an example of an inspiring metamorphosis…
La Piscine attracts more than 200,000 visitors each year !

A little history refresher…
In October 1932, when it was first opened, La Piscine was the manifestation of a political and social venture: to offer residents a state-of-the-art resource for both their physical health and hygienic needs.

Due to the increasing fragility of its aging vault, in 1985 it was forced to close its doors, much to the disappointment of Roubasiens who had become deeply attached to this resource. And it was this same deep attachment which we can credit for saving the edifice from a scheduled demolition, which led to the successful preservation of the structure so that it could go on to become the cherished museum it is today. Made possible by the people, the restoration efforts were executed masterfully by Jean-Paul Philippon who began work in 1998. La Piscine - Musée d'Art et d'Industrie André Diligent officially opened its doors to the public on October 21st, 2001.
Today, listed as a 20th-century heritage site, the structure serves as a fine representation of our textile city both economically and socially.
The applied arts collection is housed in the former pool area, where the shower stalls have been transformed into showcases and consulting rooms.
The fine arts collection follows a chronological and thematic path through the former bath wings. The outdoor property has been converted into a textile botanical garden.

October 2018: The new face of La Piscine
Following a six-month closure, the museum has re-opened its doors in October 2018! Now visitors have the opportunity to explore 2300 m2 of all-new additional space!
The museum has taken on a new form. Three new spaces have expanded the already-broad collection: a brand-new wing, including a temporary exhibition hall, a panorama of modern sculpture and a retrospective of the city’s past as well as a new gallery dedicated to the artists comprising the Groupe de Roubaix. And finally, the lobby has been refurbished and a restoration workshop area has been installed.
